“GOOD GOVERNANCE DECLARATION” WAS GIVEN TO THE COUNCILS OF AJARA REGIONS MUNICIPALITIES
Young Scientists Union “Intellect” solemnly handed the “Good Governance Declaration” to the Councils of Khulo, Kobuleti, Shuakhevi, Khelvachauri and Keda municipalities. This declaration was publicly signed by the majoritarian candidates, who were participating in the local self-government elections of June 15, 2014. The signing ceremony was held one day before the elections (on June 14th).
According to the “Good Governance Declaration” the member of Council undertakes the obligation to ensure publicity of activities of local self-governing bodies; to establish an effective system of public services; to promote increasing the level of the population involvement in self-governance processes; to make the processes of budget formation, approval and management more transparent and base it on the real requirements and the needs of the population; to promote economic development of municipality, improvement of the business environment and the population welfare.
“Good Governance Declaration” was developed by Young Scientists Union “Intellect” within the project “Communities for Democratic Elections”. The project aims to promote increasing the awareness level of the population of communities of the Ajara regions municipalities - Khulo, Shuakhevi, Keda, Khelvachauri and Kobuleti, on the essence of self-governance, the rules of election of self-governing bodies and about the functioning issues of self-governing bodies; Promoting the strengthening of the institutional and management capacity.
“When I decided to become a member of the Council, I realized the responsibility that I had to get before the voters. Signing of the declaration strengthened my faith and increased tenfold the undertaken responsibility. This is the document that will remind you the obligations, which has each member of the Council before the population. I think, the signature on the declaration will not allow us to relax and will permit us to be more attentive and professional,” - said an independent candidate of the Council of Shuakhevi municipality, Gela Abashidze.
